Fil-American pole vaulter Caleb Monticalvo, a business administration senior at California State University-Stanislaus, will try to make an impression in the 2013 POC-PSC National Games. Monticalvo, who is working on acquiring a Philippine passport, aims to shatter the national record on local soil after having done so in the United States for the second time over the weekend. Athletics competitions in the Games will start today at the Philsports Complex oval with 14 golds at stake, including two final events in the men’s and women’s 5,000-meter steeplechase. Last Sunday, Monticalvo came up with a new personal best of 5.10 meters in the NCAA Division II championships in Pueblo, Colorado, according to the event’s website and pinoyathletics, com. He placed sixth to eventual champion Jordan Yamoah and surpassed the 5.0 meter feat of his coach Edward Lasquette in 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Last April 12, he made a Philippine record-break 5.05 meters at the Chico Distance and Twilight Carnival meet in California. “Top 6 in the nation 2 years in a row. Now OMW(on my way) to the Philippine National Games in Manila on Tuesday with a new best jump of 5.10m,” said Monticalvo in a Facebook message. more
