Thousand Oaks, California –Kevin Burnett of Thousand Oaks won the pole vault competition at the recent National Senior Games at Berea, Ohio. Burnett, a pole vault coach at Thousand Oaks High, persevered through rainy conditions to win with a mark of 10 feet, 10 inches. Competing at Baldwin Wallace University, Burnett was one of 503 athletes participating from California, but the only pole vaulter. “After training for this event for six months, I never expected or accounted for the inclement weather,” Burnett said. “I am very pleased with my outcome, but was really looking forward to bettering my marks which I was consistently doing in practice. This just motivates me to continue on and to try to hit those marks in my next competition.” Burnett said he grew up in the area and was supported by family and friends who came to cheer him on.
