BRIDGEWATER — Six individuals and two relay teams participated in this past Saturday’s All-State Track-and-Field Meet which took place at Bridgewater State College over six-plus hours.

Three of the individuals placed in the top six of their respective events which puts them into this weekend’s New England Meet but according to Girls Head Coach John Byrnes, only Jess Amedee and Chelsee Porcaro will be competing as Jess Ripley as elected not too.

Ripley and Ashley Colarusso started the day off on the right wrong as they surpassed each other’s school record with every attempt so it seemed. They both cleared 10-3 to share the current record and Ripley finished fifth in the event on less misses with Colarusso seventh.

“The record going in was Ripley’s at 9-8 from a couple weeks ago,” said Byrnes, who was named the Boston Globe Division 3 Coach of the Year. “Colarusso broke it Saturday with a 9-9 jump. After missing once at that height, Ripley came back and equaled the mark. Then she did one better and broke the record again on her first attempt at 10-3 And on her third attempt at that height, Colarusso got over as well.

“Looking on from afar, I thought the best part was when Ashley first broke Jess’s record at 9-9 and both of them were all smiles about it. For one, it was nice to see them so happy for each other. But I think there was also a sense that they both knew it wasn’t the last record of the day.”
