Chino High School pole vaulter Marguerite Crockem placed fifth at the CIF State Meet at Buchanan High School in Clovis last Saturday, finishing with a leap of 11 feet, 10 inches.
The junior was the highest finisher among girls pole vaulters from the CIF-Southern Section.
Los Gatos High’s Greta Wagner won the event with a leap of 13-00.25, followed by Del Oro’s Melissa Maneatis (12-04), Rancho Bernardo High’s Augusta Thomason (12-04) and Presentation High’s Taylor Jaques (11-10). Following Crockem, Pacific College High’s Erika Malaspina and Santa Cruz’s Katherine Whiting tied for sixth with 11-10, San Ramon’s Lauren Larson took eighth with an 11-04.25 and Mater Dei freshman McKenna Caskey and Pacific College’s Nicole Trenchard tied for ninth at 11-04.25. Crockem was among 11 pole vaulters tying for first with leaps of 11-09 in the state preliminaries a day earlier. She converted that height on her third attempt.
