Fairless’ Allyson Simmons must already feel right at home at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Perry’s Lucas Kelley has taken a quick liking to the place as well.
Kelley and Simmons co-authored possibly the best story in Stark County high school pole vault history Saturday by winning state titles at the OHSAA Track and Field Championships.
Simmons cleared an all-time Ohio girls best 13 feet, 4 1/4 inches to win her second straight Division II championship. Kelley hit 15-10 to win the Division I title and set a boys county record.
The wins came within a few hours, and Simmons and Kelley were on hand to support the other. They’re friends and members of the same pole vault club.
