WESLACO, TEXAS
 — Brandon Hall had already given up. Hall never imagined he’d see himself in midair again, trying to complete a pole vault attempt. Not after he sustained a season-ending head injury at the beginning of track season during his sophomore year. And then came much more than the injury itself. “I didn’t think I would ever come back,” Hall said. “Everything was in my head.” Yet, this weekend, Hall is on his way to Austin to participate in the UIL Class 5A state track and field meet held at Mike A. Myers Stadium — but not before enduring two years of frustration and the biggest mental block in his young life. In basketball, it’s trying to overcome a missed crucial free-throw with the game on the line. In football, it may be a routine catch in the end zone that was dropped in front of thousands watching. Or in baseball, it could be the case of bad luck of an infielder misjudging a routine ground ball going between the legs, that lost a game. Hall’s bad luck wasn’t team oriented, but it’s something not many athletes can overcome. Ever. more
