Oregon –Three Liberty High School records were set and the boys and girls placed fourth and sixth, respectively, at the Cotton Invitational at Grant High School on Friday, but Liberty senior Matthew Langbehn’s scary fall on a 10-foot pole vault attempt overshadowed the day’s efforts. Langbehn came down “off to the side” on a pole vault attempt, hitting the edge of the pit before landing on the ground, banging both his head and shoulder in the process. It soon became clear Langbehn had suffered a concussion. The senior was taken to Kaiser Interstate before being transported via ambulance to Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. “They kept him overnight at the hospital,” Liberty coach Perry Beeler said. “I just heard this morning from his family that they are releasing him. He’s fine and should be able to run again before the end of the season.” While high school field events often happen away from the spotlight, the injury was jarring enough to cause concern for much of the Liberty track team. “Any time you have an injury like that, it kind of dampens things down,” Beeler said. “It wasn’t like there was a somber mood on the bus home, it was just quieter than normal.” more
