New Jersey –RAMSEY – The Twin Boro Relays may not have the prestige that the Penn Relays have, but that didn’t stop Ridgefield Park from making the meet hugely significant. Scarlets’ boys pole vaulters Raul Ferreira, Chris Diaz and Luis Escarret combined to vault 40 feet Saturday at Ramsey’s John C. Depuyt Field, breaking the 41-year-old mark of 38-6 set by Pascack Valley, one of the oldest boys Bergen County track and field records. Ferreira stepped up and cleared 13-6. Diaz followed with the same mark. Only needing an 11-foot jump to reach the record, Escarret finished things off by vaulting 13-0. Ridgefield Park’s record-breaking performance overshadowed North Arlington, which won the meet thanks to its victories in the javelin, high jump and long jump. “It’s great what they’ve done,” said Ridgefield Park pole vault coach Nick Faulker, filling in for head coach Dennis Murri who was attending the Penn Relays. “They knew they could do it and we’ve stressed this year that we have a chance to do good things.” Pascack Valley set the county record in the pole vault in 1973 with a 38-6, and Ridgefield Park’s vaulters had their sights on that mark at the beginning of the season. Ferreira, Diaz, and Escarret missed their first major chance to break the record at the Aviator Relays, but tied the mark at the Lyndhurst Relays last weekend. The three seniors were at ease after setting the record Saturday, satisfied with their performance but still displaying a businesslike attitude. – See more at: http://www.northjersey.com/sports/h-s-boys-track-ridgefield-park-pole-vaulters-break-41-year-old-bergen-county-mark-1.1003822#sthash.1KY4WVor.dpuf
