With defending champion Craig Hunter of Robbinsville failing to qualify for the NJSIAA Meet of Champions this spring, the boys pole vault was as wide open as any event. So, perhaps fittingly, it was a wild card qualifier that emerged from a historic pack. A record five jumpers cleared 15 feet, but it was Eric Geider of Demarest that took home the state title on misses. Michael Closs of New Providence was second. Dylan Altland of Kingsway was third, Morris Hills’ Jordan Pacheco was fourth and Nicholas Eckett of Jackson Liberty finished fifth, rounding out the quintet of 15-0 markers.
