February 12,2014 clear and 75
14 Vaulters – Tyler Cone came back from PVCC and Coach Jager stopped by to train and coach. KC was injured today. Strange injury she tripped coming off the pit and sprained her ankle. Today in practice the beginners worked on the track getting their 3 and 5 step. Meanwhile: Will and Tyler warmed up for some full vaulting. Tyler Cone: did some super step vaults. Needs to work on early plant; keeping from being under and tall…tall plant. Will did some super 5 step vaults over 13 and 14. His goal was to get a starting height for his meet on Sunday. Beginners returned to the runway to perfect their runs. Some really need run technique work; but I felt we needed some success today…so got their step as best we could to improve the run later. Others were very, very impressive. We put the bar at 5 and all males easily cleared that. One female easily cleared; the other new females were very close. Tomorrow the plan is to get the poles out and pick the right poles and do some stiff pole rock back swing work.
Individual notes
K.C.: Get well. You had some trouble with which foot to plant; However all other technique looked quite good. So run work ahead. Crystal: cool seeing you easily clear the bungee. Some problems with step at the first but when they clicked you soared. Great. Now…need some run and swing work. Anthony: Amazing speed. You flew pretty high. Very impressed. Now need to keep that run consistent and work on the swing. I expect a great year ahead. Casey: We had some problem with that run. Bad technique with head down and short steps. However, when we finally got you relaxed, things came back to yesterday and you started going over that bar. We need to work on run technique. Rest looked good. John: You did some discus and came back to us. You missed a lot of instruction but your speed was good and you cleared the 5 foot easily. Now need some plant work. Josiah: You had an amazing day. Some work getting your step then things clicked and you soared. I like the tall straight plant and the strong run. Good year coming. Christian: I know you are doing a lot of distance work and we developed a problem pulling the pole and having a light pole that was scary. So…tomorrow we will get back to pushing the pole at the plant. Lillie: Sprinting and job are already cutting into a promising vault time. Hope things get better time wise. Your technique is good. We just need more time to become a champion. Nick Peterson: Now here is a stud. You picked up the vault so quickly and you really really like it. Cool. You are flying very high for a beginning vaulter. I expect State things in the future. Need to work on the plant…tall plant. But we will work on that stuff. Thanks for coming out for pole vault. Shawn: Like Nick you are at the top of the class. I expect you to win State some time in junior or senior year. You are picking up the technique very quickly and you are tall and fast. You will be a great football player and basketball player but you will be a state champion vaulter. Now we need to work on a tall plant and swing. Eddy and Noel: First day must have felt overwhelming. But you stuck with it…both of you and made progress. As you see you need some run and plant work. That will happen over the next few days. Maguire: first good day…You started from being uncertain to as the day went on more certain and finally cleared opening height. Nice job. You should have confidence now. Need to keep working on the run and the swing. Victoria: Your advantage is your strength and after you figured out this thing called pole vault you started to soar. You almost…almost cleared that bar. You made great progress for a first day.
