Senior pole vaulter Karley King was named the Female Field Athlete of the Week by American Athletic Conference officials Tuesday for the third consecutive week. King finished on top once again during the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational Friday night with a mark of 4.10m (13’-5.25”). Her vault tied the third best performance in school history originally set by King. She cleared the height on the first attempt, knocking out the rest of the competition. The senior moved up to attempt 4.21m (13’-9.75”) to beat the school record.
The Louisiana native earned the inaugural Female Field Athlete of the Week honor when she broke the meet record and her personal record 4.15m (13’-7.25”) at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational (Dec. 7) and after she broke the meet record with a 4.00m (13’-1.50”) vault to win the Houston Indoor Opener (Jan. 11).
