Eric Hunter, a Northampton Area High School graduate and a sophomore at West Chester University, cleared 15 feet, 9.75 inches Friday to take first place and also set a school record in the men’s college division at the Golden Bear Track and Field Invitational at Kutztown University. A 2011 PIAA Class AAA champion in the pole vault while at Northampton, Hunter’s vault of 15-5 in the 2011 Lehigh Valley Conference Championships shares the No. 1 spot on the region all-time list. He won Friday’s competition on fewer misses, edging Kutztown junior Lanny Buck, a former Palmerton High School athlete. Both share the No. 4 spot on the NCAA Division II pole vault list so far this indoor season.
