There are three reasons why Ashton Eaton and Brianne Theisen-Eaton decided to extend their track and field season with one more competition in the wine country of France this weekend. First, they’re both healthy. Second, it’s a chance for a significant payday. And, finally, with no world team to make in 2014, the two Oregon Track Club Elite multi-event stars figured it would be a perfect ending to a stressful post-Olympic year in which they got married July 13, just one month before the World Championships in Moscow. At that meet, of course, Eaton became the first decathlete in history to claim the world outdoor title as the reigning Olympic gold medalist. Theisen-Eaton, meanwhile, won silver in the heptathlon with a personal best of 6,530 points, despite spending two days in bed with the flu before competing. They are both entered in the 37th Decastar combined events competition Saturday and Sunday in Talence, France, the final event of the 2013 IAAF Combined Events Challenge. more
