Australia –Pole vaulter, Alana Boyd, has been appointed to the Australian Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission. Boyd takes the place of Stuart O’Grady. The cyclist’s position on the Commission was terminated after it was revealed he used banned blood-doper EPO before the 1998 Tour de France. Boyd competed at Beijing in 2008 and London 2012 and is the daughter of Olympians Ray and Denise Boyd (nee Robertson). Her father won 12 Australian pole vault titles and her mother Denise was an outstanding sprinter. Alana started in athletics when she was 10 competing in high jump but later switched to pole vault under Coach Alex Parnov in Perth. She has a Bachelor of Business Management and joins fellow pole vaulter, Steve Hooker, on the Commission. which now comprises six women and four men/ more
