Mt. Pleasant, PA — Abbey Way once starred as a student/athlete at Mt. Pleasant Area Junior-Senior High School. Five years after her 2008 graduation, Way still has the spotlight as a sports journalist. “I wanted to go into journalism because I love hearing people’s stories and sharing them with the world,” Way said. Way is a reporter for 93.7 “The Fan” sports radio station. Way earned four gold medals during WPIAL track championships — three for pole vaulting and one for high jump. By her senior year, she had cleared 11 feet, 6 inches as a pole vaulter and was named PIAA state champion. “Sports have always been my passion, and I loved to pole vault,” Way said. After graduating, Way set out for East Carolina University on an NCAA Division 1 track and field scholarship. While there, Way cleared 12 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault by her senior year and finished second at Conference USA championships. In the classroom, she decided to study journalism.
