Aug 23 – Aug 25–Medellin, Colombia–The Pan American Juniors is an every-other-year meet that brings together 19-and-under athletes from across the Americas and Carribean. The U.S. team is typically comprised of a mixture of high school athletes and college freshmen. The 2013 team features 12 high school boys completing their season (11 graduated seniors and one who will return to high school) and 14 girls (12 graduated seniors and two returning to high school). Colombia is the 12th different nation to hold the event, which got its start in Sudbury, Canada in 1980.
Fun fact: The 2007 Pan Am meet in Sao Paulo, Brazil is the place where future world champion decathlete Ashton Eaton met wife-to-be and world silver medal heptathlete Brianne Theisen met. Eaton was coming out of his freshman year at the University of Oregon and Theisen, of Saskatchewan, Canada, was in the process of being recruited to Oregon.
