Glasgow’s bid to host one of the biggest events in world athletics next year is under threat after it was revealed that London has launched a last-minute bid to retain the Diamond League in the city. This year’s two-day meeting, held on Friday and Saturday, attracted sell-out crowds to the Olympic Stadium to watch the sport’s global icons, including Usain Bolt and Mo Farah. UK Athletics have pledged that the iconic Stratford venue will become the meeting’s permanent home but they will have to go elsewhere next summer while initial renovations take place ahead of its use for the Rugby World Cup. more
