COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M track and field head coach Pat Henry, who won his seventh NCAA title at Texas A&M earlier in 2013, has hired Kris Grimes as an assistant coach for the Aggie track and field program. Grimes previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska and he will work with the multi-event student-athletes as well as the jumpers at Texas A&M. “Kris will be a great addition to our staff here at Texas A&M,” Henry, who has won 34 overall NCAA titles in his career, said. “He has been tremendously successful
on the Division I level and has qualified a number of student-athletes for the NCAA Championships. We are excited to have Kris and his family join our Aggie family.” Grimes coached eight years at Nebraska working with the combined events as well as serving as the pole vault coach. His crew has compiled 23 All-America Awards at Nebraska and he has had three individual NCAA Champions. A three-time NCAA Division II All-America pole vaulter at ACU, Grimes was a key contributor on four Division II national championship teams. Prior to his stint at Nebraska, Grimes served as an assistant coach at Washington State working with the jumps and pole vault, as well as areas of academic and overall development and recruitment. From 1996-98, Grimes worked at Michigan State and tutored an NCAA champion and three All-Americans and he served as the interim director of Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country. From 1992-96, Grimes worked at the University of Louisiana-Monroe as an assistant. Grimes began his coaching career at his alma mater, Abilene Christian, working with the pole vaulters in 1989 as he earned his bachelor’s degree in education. more
