(Morelia, Mexico)  Mt. SAC Freshman Pole Vaulter, Tiziana Ruiz, representing her home country of Mexico, captured the silver medal at the 2013 Central American and Carribean (CAC) Championships.  Ruiz jumped 12’09″1/2 (3.90M) to finish in second place behind champion and teammate, Carmelita Correa, who jumped 12’11″1/2 (3.95M) to capture the gold medal. Ruiz avenged an earlier loss to Daymora Plannell Cruz (San Jose City College) of Puerto Rico, who defeated Ruiz for the 2013 California Community College State Championships in mid May.  Plannell Cruz jumped 12’07″1/2 (3.85M) to take fourth place at the CAC Championships.   At the state championships, both vaulters jumped 12’10″1/4 (3.92), however Plannell Cruz had one less miss and was awarded the championship.   This season (2013), Ruiz has flourished at Mt. SAC, improving her personal best to 12’10″1/4 (3.92M) and breaking the Mt. SAC Record numerous times.  She is coached by Mt. SAC Assistant and legendary former Mountie, Giovanni Lanaro (2 time Mexican Olympian / Mexican, Mt. SAC and Mt. SAC Relays Record Holder), who himself is a two time CAC Championship Gold Medalist.
