York Pennsylvania –After winning a gold medal in the pole vault at the York-Adams Track and Field Meet, Kennard-Dale’s Dylan Moynihan talked about two vaulters who helped inspire him. “Jared (Dallastown’s Jared Allison) got me started, and my own motivation and Bill Butler keep me going,” Moynihan said. Allison vaulted 16 feet, 3 inches (the highest ever by a York-Adams athlete) to win the silver medal at last year’s state meet. Butler was an outstanding athlete at Kennard-Dale who in his senior year (1979) captured state gold medals in the pole vault and 300 hurdles and helped the Rams win the state Class AA team title. Butler held the school record in the pole vault (15 feet) for 34 years until Moynihan soared 15-9 at the District 3 meet this past Friday. The Rams’ senior took second behind Palmyra’s Tim Moses who cleared 16 feet. Moses and Moynihan will see who can go the highest again this weekend at the PIAA State Championship. Moses is seeded first, and Moynihan is seeded second. The Boys’ Class AAA pole-vault competition is set for Friday and Saturday. more
