On the same weekend former John Curtis Pole Vaulter Dylan Duvio qualified for the Pan American Junior Championships this fall and learned he was named the 2012-13 Gatorade Louisiana Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Duvio will represent Team USA in the Pan American competition in Medellin, Columbia Aug. 23-25. He qualified on June 21 during the U.S. Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, IA, where he cleared the bar at 16 ft., 8-3/4 in. Duvio was one of few high school-aged competitors in the field that included the nation’s best 17-19 year old athletes. Duvio was also just named the 2012-13 Gatorade Louisiana Track & Field Athlete of the Year. His personal best of 17 ft., 3-1/2 in. broke the state’s all-time composite record and ranked him second in the nation among prep pole vaulters. He received a scholarship from Stanford University.
