Two-time Olympic sprinter Muna Lee joining World Athletics Center in Phoenix

Two-time U.S. Olympic sprinter Muna Lee is among the athletes joining the World Athletic Center in Phoenix to train for 2014-15. Lee was fourth in the 200-meter and fifth in the 100 at the 2008 Olympics and seventh in the 200 at the 2004 Olympics. She was 2009 U.S. Outdoor 100 and 200 runner-up. She was seventh in the 100 at the 2013 U.S. Outdoor in 11.00 seconds. Up to 55 athletes will be training full-time at WAC in 2014-15 including newcomers Anna Jelmini and Ryan Milus, both formerly at Arizona State, South African sprinter Anaso Jobodwana, Australian long jumper Fabrice Lapierre, Trinidad & Tobago hurdler Mikel Thomas, sprinters Taylor and Terra Evans (twin daughters of 1976 Olympic 200 bronze medalist Dwayne Evans) and multi-event performers Ryann Krais and Curtis Beach. Others continuing to train at WAC include Aries Merritt (U.S. hurdles), Brad Walker (U.S. pole vault), Jeshua Anderson (U.S. hurdles), Christabel Nettey (Canada long jump), Steve Lewis (Great Britain pole vault), Vikas Gowda (India discus) and Matthias Buehler (Germany hurdles).  WAC founder/CEO John Godina said he is working “26 hours a day” to finalize the purchase of property to build a track and accompanying training facilities. Currently WAC athletes train at Paradise Valley Community College and at Exos (formerly Athletes’ Performance) in north Phoenix.  more
