BAY CITY, MI — It may only be October, but Sunday’s Bay County Sports Hall of Fame banquet had a wintery feel to it.
With Alex Izykowski’s induction, the Hall now includes all three of Bay County’s Winter Olympic medalists. And for the first time, all three were together at the 24th Bay County Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony held Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Doubletree hotel and conference center in downtown Bay City.
Izykowski earned a bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy, as a member of the 5,000-meter short track speedskating relay team. He was honored Sunday along with seven other local athletes and two teams.
But the evening had a Winter Olympic theme as past medal-winners Terry McDermott and Doug Sharp were in the house to deliver separate keynote addresses.
