Waco, Texas –No one at Mart High School wants to talk about it.”I’m dreading the day,” volleyball head coach and assistant track coach Jerry Hoffman said.”We’re going to be so sad,” Mart principal Betsy Burnett.Because the school’s biggest role model will soon be gone.”Every kid here at Mart knows what her name is,” Hoffman.”Every kid in this district knows Savannah,” Burnett said.Savannah is a pole vaulting, calculus formulating, volleyball playing senior and quite possible the best student athlete Mart has known.”We have a very tough job, but Savannah is why we do this every day,” Burnett said.”She’s set a standard for a lot of other young ladies,” Hoffman said.The standard was set at 10 feet, when she broke the school’s pole vault record.But the bar hasn’t always been easy to clear.”Savannah has had the weight of the world on her shoulders for a long time,” Burnett said.From an early age, some things that were difficult to understand.”My parents divorced when I was little.”So Savannah made a choice. more
