A high court judge in South Africa says Oscar Pistorius is not guilty of murdering Reeva Steenkamp. Judge Thokozile Masipa made the announcement in a hushed courtroom Thursday as she summed up the evidence presented during the long trial. The judge has yet to rule on the lesser charge of culpable homicide, which could still result in 15 years in jail for Pistorius. Masipa said the evidence of some witnesses had to be “rejected in its entirety.” Pistorius wept and hugged his lawyer as the judge slowly described her findings. She will make the rest of her judgment tomorrow. The defense had claimed that he killed his girlfriend when he panicked after mistaking her for an intruder, shooting her through a bathroom door at their home
