CHULA VISTA, California–In a short conversation I had with Brad Walker at the Nike Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon on June 1st, the defending US outdoor champion and American record holder in the pole vault told me that he would jump at the Olympic Training Center as a final tuneup for the USA outdoor championships in Des Moines, Iowa next week. And jump he did. Walker, the University of Washington alum, cleared his opening height of 19-0 1/4 (5.80m) on Thursday afternoon to win the competition at the Olympic Training Center Pre-World 10 meet. After clearing 19-0 1/4, he took three shots at 19-4 1/4 (5.90m), missing all three times.
