United Kingdom –Katie Byres, a 20-year-old Pole Vaulter from Hadfield, has today been chosen to represent England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Glasgow from July 23rd – August 3rd. “I am so pleased and excited to go to the Commonwealth Games. It is my first senior England vest and it is a real honor to represent my country. When I was eight I was in the stadium watching at the Manchester Commonwealth Games and I cannot believe that I am now going to be there as an athlete. Vaulting in Glasgow will be an amazing experience as hopefully the crowd will get right behind you.” “I have made a lot of changes this year. I moved to train at Loughborough. I changed my coach and am now coached by Kate Dennison who won Bronze at the Commonwealths in Delhi four years ago. Unfortunately I was injured in the indoor season but being selected is a real boost to my confidence. I have been working really hard and am now looking towards the summer. I am aiming to jump well and be in great shape for the Commonwealths”. more
