NEW YORK – Duke track and field team member Megan Clark traveled to New York City Wednesday to compete in a pole vaulting competition that occurred at the intersection of West 34th Street and Broadway in Herald Square. The event, held in advance of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Diamond League Track and Field meet at Icahn Stadium scheduled for Saturday, included 2012 Olympic gold medalist Jenn Suhr and three other vaulters in the exhibition.
Clark, who placed third in the event with a height of 14-6 (4.41), returned to New York after earning the 2011 New York state title in the pole vault during her high school career. Clark’s clearance proved particularly impressive due to the constraints of a shortened runway set up in front of New York’s famous Macy’s in Manhattan.
The competition acted as a tune-up for Clark, who prepares for the 2014 USATF National Outdoor meet June 26-29 in Sacramento, Calif.
