Meador, Spindel Earn VHSL Honors

Two Central Virginia student-athletes were honored as part of the The Allstate Foundation/VHSL Achievement Award luncheon on Monday in Charlottesville.Fluvanna County senior Hannah Meador was named the Group 4A Female Athlete of the Year. Meador ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track and also played volleyball for the Flucos. She was named a second-team All American and won six VHSL pole vaulting state titles during her career. It’s really exciting,” she said of the award. “I know there was a lot of competition and a lot of great athletes competing for the award, so it was an honor.”Meador will be attempting to win a fourth-straight outdoor pole vaulting title in June at the Group 4A state meet at Liberty University. In addition, she also owns 11 district and region indoor and outdoor pole vaulting titles, while also winning all-district and all-region honors in the triple jump, long jump, 300 meter, 4×200 and 4×400 meter relays.Meador will continue her pole vaulting career next year at the University of South Dakota, and plans on majoring in kinesiology and sport science.”The past four years in athletics have been a great opportunity to get involved in my school,” Meador said Monday. “I’ve had the opportunity since I’ve been at the top in pole vault to actually coach the younger athletes, and that has been awesome.” more
