Algonac, MI –Mitchell Mueller didn’t get much of a break at the Muskrat Classic. The Algonac High School junior was all over the field last weekend, winning events for the Muskrats. He was part of the Muskrats’ winning 800 sprint hurdle relay and shuttle hurdle relay teams. Mueller also set a school record in the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, 6 inches. For his performance, he is the Times Herald Athlete of the Week. “I think he has been having a great season as far as pole vaulting goes,” Algonac coach Kurt Welchner said. “He can set a school record even if he doesn’t have a nice day. “He’s only a junior, but I think he’s going to make a lot of strides by the end of this year. If he ever has a nice day outside, I can only imagine how high he goes.” Saturday’s cool weather wasn’t the best for vaulting, but Mueller still reached new heights. “It’s been a really windy spring,” he said. “I feel I’m doing better the worst the weather is. I have been better in the rain than on a normal sunny day. I feel I have an advantage almost.” He also put aside physical pain before setting the school record. more
