When inclement weather moved the vault indoors at Desiree Freier’s Area meet, it was no big deal. She was already the best undercover vaulter ever.
She got only better, upping not only the national high school standard, but also the American Junior Record, to 14.6.
She didn’t attack things in small bites either. She opened at 13. 0 (make on second attempt), and didn’t jump again until 13.9 (make on first attempt) before going for the record height, which she cleared on her second try before missing three at 14.9.
Said coach George Lutkenhaus, She’s been vaulting well all year; you could kind of see the progression coming. She’s been popping some really good vaults. Surprised? Not at all.
She had a really good attempt at 14.9; she just barely brushed it off. She can get that bar.
