Coos Bay, Oregon |–Several area middle school students had standout efforts over the past two weekends at the Mid-Valley Meet of Champions and the Middle School State Meet. The Meet of Champions at Corvallis included athletes from nearly 100 schools and produced some outstanding marks. At the state meet, Jackson Stallard, Darian Wilson and Damie Zomerschoe of North Bend all won events. Stallard took first in the long jump (18-71⁄2) and pole vault, clearing an impressive 12-6. He also had the second-best qualifying time in the hurdles, but was disqualified in the final. His cousin, Austin Stallard, was sixth in the pole vault (8-0) and teammate Conner Kellogg just missed the podium in the 400, placing ninth (1:03.21). Wilson won the javelin (103-0) and hurdles (17.24) and placed second in the long jump (15-5) and shot put (34-1). Zomerschoe won the pole vault (9-0) and was sixth in the high jump (4-8).
