Dedication–
I am in my third season pole vaulting and I enjoy every minute of it! I was in gymnastics for many years which came to an end due to a back injury from the vault table. At this point my brother, who was a former pole vaulter who jumped 15’6″, really wanted me to try pole vaulting, because many gymnasts do rather well. I thought he was crazy, but I went ahead and gave it a try.
This is the most physical and mental sport. This is the track and field event where you always leave the field as a failure, even if you PR’d, because you don’t just stop after you have PR’d. You attempt the next height and keep going until you have three failed attempts. There is always something you could have done better. It makes you continue to strive for greatness. It has made me so much stronger physically and mentally and I am so pleased with my results this season. I am holding 1st in San Diego and I’m somewhere up in the top 10 in California (although it is hard to say where in the charts exactly, because we are only half-way through season and I will be clearing many, many more heights before the end!)
Excited for college track and field!
Goal by end of the season: 13′ more
