Nevada, Missouri –Adding yet another notch to his cap, Nevada High School pole vaulter Morgan Hold has announced his plans to sign a letter of intent to continue his pole vaulting career at Missouri Southern State University. Hold was one of the biggest bright spots on head coach Robert Watts’ Nevada High School track and field team this year. Watts knew right from the start of the season that it wouldn’t take much improvement for Hold to start getting attention from college programs and Hold went above and beyond those expectations, shattering the mark he needed to find his way onto a college team. Hold got the improvement he needed when he broke the Nevada High School pole vault record with his 14-foot, 3-inch effort at the Girard Invitational on April 29. From that point, Hold simply kept getting better and better, eventually shattering his own record by 15 inches on his way to earning a Sectional Championship with a height of 15-6. Hold wasn’t quite able to repeat that performance at the 2013 MSHSAA State Track and Field Championships, but still cleared 15 feet, which landed him in second place. That effort was the same as Festus High School senior Zach Reed’s winning height, but the state title ultimately went to Reed simply because Hold took one more attempt to clear the bar than he did. Watts announced via email Wednesday morning that Hold’s letter-of-intent signing will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, in the library/media center at Nevada High School.  more
