ALMONT, Michigan — Matthew Harris, a 2012 graduate of Almont High School, contributed a placewinning performance to Hillsdale College’s cause at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships it hosted March 1-2. Harris, a sophomore, pulled up second in the pole vault with a clearance of 15 feet 3 inches. Bret Myers, a senior hailing from Grand Valley State University, was the event pacesetter. Myers cleared 17 feet 3/4 inches en route. When the final standings were announced, Grand Valley State University’s 162-point total paced the 13-team field assembled. They were followed by Ashland (138.5 points), Tiffin (79), Findlay (63.5), Lake Erie (50), Hillsdale (48.5), Lake Superior State (45.5), Saginaw Valley State University (29.5), Northwood (21), Malone (10), Walsh (six), Ohio Dominican (six) and Ferris State (four). In addition to his strong showing at the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, Harris also excelled for Hillsdale College at the Hillsdale Tuneup it hosted on Saturday, February 22. Harris generated a second-place finish in the pole vault that day. He cleared 15 feet 7 1/4 inches en route.Eastern Michigan University senior Max Babits won the event with an effort of 18 feet 1 inch. source
