Braidwood, IL–Morgan Zacharias, a junior at Reed-Custer High School, was recently invited to attend a Pole Vault Summit on Rolling Meadows High School Saturday.
“This was an honor even to be included, since only the best vaulters from the state of Illinois receive an invitation to compete,” said R-C head track coach Trenton Roth.
Zacharias was selected to compete because she placed second at state in both her freshman and sophomore years in the pole vault.
Last year at the Windy City Pole Vault Summit, Zacharias cleared 10’6″ but did not place.
Her personal best through last year was 11’9″ which tied the Reed-Custer school record shared with Jackie Marquardt.
However, this past Saturday, Zacharias raised her personal best to 12’6″, shattering the old school record by nine inches and winning the championship at the Windy City Pole Vault Summit.
This is especially impressive considering that she was competing against vaulters from all three classes, A, AA and AAA which includes athletes from the largest high schools in the state. source
