With 25 schools set to compete, Flagstaff’s largest city meet will begin the season today in NAU’s Walkup Skydome. Both track and field events get underway at 10:30 a.m.
All three of Flagstaff’s high schools are set for the meet, which will score the top six finishers from each event. Field events include shot put, long jump, triple jump, pole vault and high jump. Field events being with the 3,200 meters, followed by the 800m, 200m, 60m hurdles, 60m, 400m, 1,600m and the 4x400m relay.
Local record holders in the meet include Flagstaff’s Chloe Phillips’ 2:26.96 in the girls 800m, set in 2008 and Coconino’s Ross Lake with a 6-08 jump in the boys high jump set in 2013. Steven Roesigg and Heather Calandra of Coconino also hold records set in 2012. Roesigg jumped 43-09 in the boys triple jump and Calandra threw a 40-00.50 in the girls shot put.
