BERRYHILL – Despite the cold weather that continues to hover over the area, track and field for area schools has begun, with the first event taking place on Feb. 15 at the Oklahoma Indoor Games in Enid. Berryhill’s Cassie Scott began her quest for a state championship in the pole vault at the games and vaulted 12 foot to take first place. Scott, the Class 4A runner up in the event in 2013, bested her vault at state last year by six inches when she vaulted 11’6” to take second.
“Once I cleared the 12’ bar, I though to myself, this is kind of neat being able celebrate on the way down,” said Scott. Scott is a junior at Berryhill high school and has been pole vaulting for a few years.
She finished in second place in the pole vault at the Meet of Champions in 2012 and in 2013.
Despite her love for track and field, she has other interests that keep her very busy.
She is in the color guard for the Berryhill Marching Band and in also a Level 9 gymnast at Ultimate Gymnastics.
The daughter of Jerry and Lisa Scott, she attends Trinity Baptist Church in Tulsa and is a very good student at Berryhill, currently holding a 3.91 GPA. more
