California –American Canyon will join Benicia High School’s pole vaulter Adam Thomas and St. Patrick-St. Vincent’s high jumper Jose Flores at state. Thomas qualified for the third time in three seasons with a leap of 15 feet, 1 inch at the Masters final. Thomas’ top distance in the pole vault is 15-8, which he achieved in San Diego in March. He holds the school record in the event. Thomas said he will try and just focus on his own attempts and not on the competition. “I am hoping to break my PR sometime,” said Thomas, who will compete in the pole vault at Northeastern in Boston next year. “I am hoping it will be on Saturday.” The top qualifier is Kyle Pater of Mt. Carmel with a 16-4. In fact, the field is rated as the best in history with eight athletes at 16 feet or better. more
