JacobAshtabula, Ohio –Jefferson’s Hamilton regional champ in pole vault.  Last year, Jefferson’s Jacob Hamilton had his Division II regional track experience stolen from him because of a pelvis injury. This year, with a clean bill of health, the Falcons senior took home the regional title in the pole vault at the Division II meet at Bedford, clearing 13-6 inches.  “I never thought I’d win the regional, not at all,” he admitted. “It was definitely a shocker. I wanted to clear 13-6, that was the goal, but I didn’t expect to win. “It really hasn’t sunken in (that I’m going to state). I’m sure it will when I get to practice and start preparing (today).” Jefferson coach T.J. Furman, whom Hamilton credited for much of his success, said he was happy for the senior vaulter. “He had a very solid jump, he’s been pretty much around that all year and we’re very excited for him, he deserved it,” he said. “The poor kid worked so hard last year and then he got hurt going into the week. “He’s one of the hardest working kids we’ve ever hard. He’s just a good kid all around.” Hamilton admitted last year’s injury was a disappointment and helped fuel him for the 2013 season. “It definitely (motivated me),” he said. “Last year, I went down there expecting to jump and I tried to run and I couldn’t even run. It ticked me off and really fueled me for the rest of this year.”  more
