Hutchinson Kansas Community College sophomore and All-American and 2013 outdoor national runner-up pole vaulter Andrew Pope set a school record in the pole vault during the Jayhawk Indoor Classic on Friday in Lawrence. Pope completed the second best vault in the NJCAA this season, clearing 15 feet, 7 inches. That mark also qualified Pope for the NJCAA national indoor meet The school record Pope broke lasted 31 years. It was set by Scott Raine in 1983. Only Vincennes University’s Simon Gyllenstein has a better vault in the junior college ranks than Pope this season. He cleared 16-10 3/4 on Jan. 18. Pope broke a 31-year-old indoor Blue Dragon record when he surpassed Scott Raine, who went 15-6 in 1983.
