Australian’s qualified in World Championships

There are exactly 75 days until the 14th edition of the IAAF World Championships commences, with many of our top athletes still chasing important qualifying performances ahead of the IAAF entry date of July 29. Although we had initially looked at a team numbering close to 65 (hence the Target 65 heading), there are now more than likely going to be around 55 athletes who will line up in Moscow wearing the green and gold.

At the last Athletics Australia selectors meeting we were notified of additional selections being made in all road based events (marathon and walks), which totalled 16 athletes across these events. With these additions the Australian team now totals 36 athletes, although this will automatically be added to, with the following athletes certain to be named on July 29:

Liz Parnov (pole vault) – the 2012 Olympian requires the ‘B’ standard of 4.50m to push her claim for selection, based on the fact that Alana Boyd is most likely going to clear the ‘A’ standard of 4.60m in upcoming competitions (ed. we’ll cross our fingers on that one!). Still only a junior, Parnov has only cleared 4.50m once in her career (in Perth last year), but only needs the right competition to push for the qualifying mark that would see her on the plane to Moscow
